My name is Frida Aizenman and I was born in Colombia, where I attended school at Our Lady of Knowledge Elementary School for the Blind. Although Braille books were scarce, I remember students would gather, and a nun read during recess for entertainment. My family brought me to the United States when I was fourteen and instinctively knew the importance of setting high expectations. As a result, I graduated from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, with a degree in Spanish literature. Soon afterwards, I moved to California where I was hired as a Staffing Clerk for the Federal Employment Information Center at the Office of Personnel Management. I was required to interact with the public and provide employment, retirement, and veteran's information, utilizing current Office of Personnel Management laws, regulations, and operating procedures. I am now retired but during my free-time, I translate Braille Monitor articles and NFB philosophy from English to Spanish.
